(sshoh' fuhr) Hebrew word for the ceremonial ram's horn used to call the people of Israel together (Exodus 19:16 ). See Music. The shophar was to be blown on the Day of Atonement in the jubilee year to signal the release of slaves and debt. It also was used as a trumpet of war as the Israelites were campaigning against their enemies.
