an Italian painter, second son of Francesco Vanni, was born at, Sienna in 1596. He studied with his father, who died when Raffaelle was fourteen years of age. He afterwards studied at Rome, where he made such progress as to rival his father. Among his finest works are the Birth of the Virgin, at Rome: — the Martyrdom of St. Catherine, at Pisa: — and the Procession of our Saviour to Calvary, at Sienna. He was elected a member of the Academy of St. Luke in 1655, and was honored with knighthood. See Spooner, Biog. Hist. of the Fine Arts, s.v.
