";Trophimus"; (Acts 20:4 al.), as a proper name, occurs in P Oxy VIII. 1160.2 (late iii/iv A.D.) κυρίῳ μου πατρὶ Ὠριγένης Τρόφιμος πολλὰ χαίρειν, and in the inscrr. Magn 122 (b).5 (not later than iv/A.D.), PAS ii. 38.69, al.
The word in its sense of ";foster-child"; may he illustrated from P Oxy X. 1284.12 (A.D. 250) ἀπὸ τῆς ἑαυτοῦ τροφίμ (ου) μη (τρός), ";from his foster-child’s mother,"; ib. VI. 903.3 (iv/A.D.) ἅμα τῶν τροφίμ [ω ]ν μου, ";along with my foster-daughters."; For ὁ τρόφιμος (as frequently in comedy), ";the young heir,"; see Menander Ἐπιτρέπ. 160 : cf. Fragm. 531.1 where there is a v.l Τρόφιμε.
