Abbot and Procurator-General of La Trappe, born Lyons, France, January 14, 1772; died Rome, Italy, March 15, 1848. He fought against the French Revolutionary forces, rising to the rank of lieutenant-general, and was imprisoned at Vincennes by Napoleon for six years. After the Restoration he joined the Trappists, and although not a priest was made a titular abbot, with ring and pectoral cross, an unusual privilege.
