an adverb formed from exo, "without," properly signifies "from without," Mark 7:18 (in Mark 7:15 it is used as a preposition); with the article it is equivalent to a noun, "the outside," Matthew 23:25 (for ver. 27, see OUTWARD , No. 2); Luke 11:39; in Luke 11:40 , RV, "the outside" (AV, "that which is without"). (Strong's #1622 — Adverb — ektos — ek-tos' )

is once used with the article, "the outside," Matthew 23:26 . See EXCEPT , No. 1.
