(Ἀδασά ), a village of Judaea, where Judas the Maccabee slew the Assyrian general Nicanor (1 Maccabees 7:40; 1 Maccabees 7:45), and where he was himself afterward slain by the generals of Antiochus (Josephus, War, 1, 1, 6). It was situated, according to Josephus (Ant. 12, 10, 5), 30 stadia from Bethhoron, and, according to Jerome (Onomast. s.v.). not far from Gophna, but was hardly the HADASHAH (See HADASHAH) (q.v.) of the tribe of Judah (Joshua 15:37).
