an Arabian historian, was born in 1160 at Jazirat Ibn-Omar, in Mesopotamia, and died at Mosul in 1231. He is the author of a large historical work, giving the history of the world to the year 1230, which was edited by Tornberg, under the title, Ibn-el-Athiri Chronicon quod Perfectissimum Inscribitur (Leyden, 1858-71, 12 volumes).
