an English prelate, was born in Kent in 1482; was educated at Oxford and Cambridge; became chaplain of Henry VIII, and was finally employed by him in several diplomatic missions. In 1529 he was sent to Rome to negotiate for the divorce of the king, and in 1531 was appointed archbishop of York. He opposed the Reform doctrines of Luther, but favored the innovations which Henry VIII made in the Church. Lee died in 1544. He wrote, Apologia adversus quorumdam calumnias (Louvain, 1520): — Epistola nuncutpatoria ad Des. Erasmum (Louvain, 1520): — Annotationum Libri duo in annotationes Novi Testamenti Erasmi (Bale, 1520): — Elistola apologetica qua respondet D. Erasmi Epistolis. — Allibone, Dict. of Brit. And Am .
